20% of CEB engineers migrated in past 3 years – CEBEU

The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union (CEBEU) says nearly 20% of CEB engineers have migrated overseas over the past few years, securing highly lucrative positions with exceptional salaries and benefits.

According to the Joint Secretary of the CEBEU, Dhammika Wimalaratne, 226 engineers of the CEB workforce have migrated overseas over the past three years for highly paid positions.

Of these, 85% were Electrical Engineers, 8% Mechanical Engineers, and 7% Civil Engineers, with most securing demanding roles in Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland.

Issuing a statement, he said this reflects the growing global demand for Sri Lankan engineering expertise, particularly in the power sector.

CEB engineers are increasingly being recognized on the world stage for their technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and leadership in power sector operations. Many have already taken up demanding roles in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and other developed nations, where their contributions are vital to strengthening energy systems, he noted.

Dhammika Wimalaratne pointed out that this trend underscores the global value and competitiveness of Sri Lankan engineers, who continue to demonstrate their ability to meet international standards in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. (Islandnews)
