An 81-year-old monk has been arrested on charges of molesting a foreign tourist at a temple in Habaraduwa.
The senior monk, who serves as the chief prelate of the temple, allegedly offered food and beverages to the 41-year-old New Zealand national during her visit. He then reportedly invited her into a room at the temple, where he is accused of molesting her.
The tourist later reported the incident to the Unawatuna Tourist Police. The case was subsequently transferred to the Habaraduwa Police.
The woman will be examined by the Judicial Medical Officer at the Karapitiya Hospital as part of the ongoing investigation. (Islandnews)
