A joint operation by the Navy and Police in the Sanjeethawaththa area of Norochcholai on Saturday (July 19) led to the seizure of approximately 2,828kg of dried ginger, suspected to have been smuggled into the country.

The raid was carried out by the Naval Detachment in Norochcholai, attached to SLNS Vijaya of the Northwestern Naval Command, in coordination with Norochcholai Police. The consignment, packed in 70 sacks, was found inside a suspicious house during the search.

A 33-year-old resident of the area was arrested in connection with the incident. The suspect and the stock of dried ginger were handed over to the Norochcholai Police for further legal action. (NewsWire)
