The number of individuals who died in Saturday’s van accident in Meemure has risen to four, police said.
Initially, three people—including two women—were confirmed dead after a van veered off the road and overturned on a slope in the Kumbukgolla area of Ududumbara, along the Hunnasgiriya–Meemure road.
All injured passengers were admitted to the Ududumbara Hospital. Three women and one man later succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to four.
The deceased include two women aged 29 and a 33-year-old man, identified as residents of Gona Hena, Imbulgoda, and Hadala. The identity of the third woman has yet to be confirmed.
The remaining injured — a man and a child — have been transferred to the Peradeniya Hospital for further treatment. (NewsWire)
