Sri Lanka Police have denied social media reports claiming that security provided to a senior Buddhist monk in the Eastern Province has been withdrawn.
In a statement, police said officers from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) had been assigned to the monk and were deployed from Colombo. Due to administrative difficulties in managing long-distance deployments, a proposal was made to assign local police officers to handle the security duties more efficiently.
However, police emphasized that at no point was the monk’s security removed. Arrangements have been made to continue providing the same level of protection as before.
Authorities said the circulating reports are inaccurate and misleading, and confirmed that the monk’s security remains in place. (Islandnews)
