Indian devotees fund new Meditation Centre at Sri Lanka’s Seetha Amman Temple

A new meditation hall at the historic Seetha Amman Temple in Nuwara Eliya was officially inaugurated on Saturday (03), in a ceremony attended by Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Indian High Commissioner Santhosh Jha.

Named the Ashok Vatika Anushree Meditation Centre, the facility was funded through private donations by devotees from New Delhi, India.

Indian High Commissioner Jha, addressing the gathering, said the initiative reflects the deep spiritual and people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka. He also called for improved infrastructure at the site to attract more pilgrim-tourists, particularly from India.

The project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s April 2025 pledge to support temple development in Sri Lanka, including similar projects in Anuradhapura and Trincomalee.

Senior Sri Lankan ministers, MPs, and hundreds of devotees from both countries attended the inauguration. (Islandnews)
