Cabinet approval has been granted for the amendment of the Child Protection Authority Act to include provisions to prevent all abuses against children and respond to them.Â
According to the government, it has been around 25 years since the passing of the Child Protection Authority Act No. 50 of 1998.
As the exploitation and harassment of children have become complex due to the current socio–economic, political and cultural changes, it has been identified that amendments need to be made to the current laws, to prevent all abuses against children and respond to them.Â
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Women’s and Child Affairs to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a draft bill to amend the said act.
The amended Act is to include revisions recognized for the implementation of the Child Protection Authority Act broadly, meaningfully and efficiently. (Islandnews)
