The Cabinet has approved the recommencement of several urban development projects that were halted or slowed since 2021 due to the economic crisis.
Of 18 projects suspended, six have been completed, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said.Â
The remaining works to be resumed include the construction and development of public markets, bus stands, sanitation facilities, parks, and administrative buildings, which include the following,
- Construction of the proposed Sathipola and multi-purpose building in Walapane
- Development of Daulagala Sathipola and vehicle park
- Development of Mulathivu bus stand
- Improvement of Habarana sanitation facilities and landscapes
- Development of the road from Ruwanvelisaya Dagaba to Jethwanaramaya
- Construction of the administrative building of the new town in Polonnaruwa
- Construction of Ampara Sathipola
- Development of Deiyandara bus stand
- Development of Gampaha Public Market
- Development of Peralanda Wetland Park
- Development of Panadura Public Market and Multipurpose Building
