Govt advances plans for Hydrogen Economy

Sri Lanka is moving forward with plans to develop a hydrogen economy as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and diversify its energy mix.

The Ministry of Power and Energy has identified green hydrogen as a viable alternative energy source aligned with both national and global climate goals.

Initial steps include the launch of a National Hydrogen Road Map and the drafting of a renewable hydrogen policy, the government said.

The ministry plans to hold public and stakeholder consultations to strengthen the policy framework and ensure compliance with local conditions, international safety standards, and performance benchmarks.

The Cabinet has taken note of the measures presented by the Minister of Power and Energy for the sector’s development. (Islandnews)
