Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup on Sept. 9, continuing its tradition of early September launches. Pre-orders are likely to open Sept. 12, with devices reaching stores Sept. 19, according to industry reports.
The lineup will include four models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The new Air model, which replaces the Plus, is said to be the thinnest iPhone yet, measuring about 5 to 6 millimeters thick. Pro models are expected to feature titanium or aluminum frames and slimmer bezels.
Apple is planning major camera upgrades. All models may receive a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, while the Pro Max could feature a triple 48-megapixel rear system with 8K video recording and up to 5x optical zoom.
The devices are expected to run on Apple’s new A19 chip, with Pro models powered by the A19 Pro. Reports also suggest support for Wi-Fi 7 and Apple’s first in-house modem in select variants.
In a shift away from its reliance on China, Apple will manufacture all U.S.-bound iPhone 17 units in India through Foxconn’s new Bengaluru plant and Tata Group facilities.
Pricing is expected to start at around US$899 for the Air model, while the Pro Max could retail for about US$1,499 in the United States. In India, the Pro Max is projected to cost about Indian Rs 164,990.
The iPhone 17 series is being described as one of the most significant updates in years, with Apple betting on design changes, camera improvements and performance gains to drive upgrades. (Islandnews)
