Arjuna Mahendran noticed to appear in Court

Colombo Magistrate’s Court has issued a notice ordering former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran to appear before court on September 26 in connection with the 2015 bond scam.

The notice was issued by Chief Magistrate Tanuja Lakmali Jayatunga following a request from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Court was informed that although a previous notice had been issued last year, it was not properly executed, as Mahendran currently resides in Singapore. The CIABOC therefore requested that the order be served in English, which the Magistrate granted.

Mahendran, named as a suspect in the controversial bond scam that triggered widespread public outcry in 2015, has repeatedly failed to appear before Sri Lankan courts since leaving the country. (Islandnews)
