Mount Lavinia Magistrate A.D. Chathurika De Silva has reprimanded officials of the Colombo Fraud Bureau (CFB) for prematurely sending extracts of the case involving Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe to the Attorney General before completing their investigation, the Sunday Times reported.
The case concerns a building belonging to the National Workers’ Institute, which was allegedly leased for Rs. 3.6 million by persons, including Mr. Samarasinghe, while posing as officials of the National Workers’ Congress union. The magistrate questioned the haste in forwarding the file and noted that it could delay proceedings, instructing the CFB to seek the Attorney General’s advice only after the probe is complete.
