An extraordinary gazette has been issued temporarily suspending the registration of three national sports associations in Sri Lanka.
According to the gazette, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has suspended the registration of the Athletics, Table Tennis, and Gymnastics associations with effect from August 25, 2025.
The move was taken under Sections 32 and 33 of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973, as amended.
The gazette further states that the Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has been appointed as the competent authority to oversee the administration of the three suspended associations. The authority will continue until office bearers are duly elected at annual general meetings held under the amended constitutions of the respective associations.
The decision is aimed at ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Sports Law, including the amendment of constitutions and the proper conduct of elections within these national sports bodies. (Islandnews)
