A 41-year-old resident of Kaduruwela has been arrested by Hatton Police on charges of defrauding multiple individuals of more than Rs. 25 million.
Police said the suspect allegedly took Rs. 1.2 million from one victim, promising employment in Azerbaijan. He is also accused of deceiving people by posing as a charity worker and convincing social activists to deposit money into bank accounts under the names of various charity workers.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had defrauded about Rs. 25 million in the Hatton area alone.
