A Sri Lankan bus conductor’s act of honesty has left a lasting impression on a Spanish tourist couple after he returned a valuable smartwatch they had accidentally left behind on a local bus.
The couple, who were traveling onboard a bus from Nuwaragala to Mahiyanganaya, only realized the watch was missing after reaching their hotel. The timepiece, had been gifted by a family member, the couple said.
With the help of hotel staff, they contacted the bus company. The conductor had already found the watch and had handed it over to his supervisor for safekeeping.
“It’s not just about money,” the conductor said. “Humanity is important.”
The couple sharing their appreciation said “Thank you very much. We are surprised. Really nice people here in Sri Lanka.”
