The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched a comprehensive investigation into a social media campaign against President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his government in the past few days.
It is reported that on the orders of the Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya, a special CID team had been tasked with conducting investigations into a website and YouTube channel found to be behind the defamatory campaign.Â
The names of ministers and supporters of the government have reportedly been used in the campaign, police sources say.Â
A complaint has also been filed with the CID requesting a probe to be conducted into the matter.Â
It is said that the defamatory campaign has affected the reputation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and several Cabinet ministers. (Islandnews)
