Colombo Port profits surge by 66% in first half of 2025


The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has recorded a significant 66% increase in profits during the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period last year.

According to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, the SLPA’s profit rose from Rs. 14,691 million in the first half of 2024 to Rs. 24,418 million in the same period this year.

Operations at the Colombo Port handled over 4 million TEUs during the first half of 2025, with expectations to surpass 8 million TEUs by year-end.

The Ministry also stated that the second phase of operations at the East Container Terminal is scheduled to commence by the end of this year, while the fifth phase of the Jaya Container Terminal is expected to be completed within 2025.

Looking ahead, preliminary work related to the second phase of the West Container Terminal and development of the Colombo North Port is set to further enhance the capacity of the Colombo Port in the coming years. (NewsWire)
