Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member Johnston Fernando claimed that several foreign embassies in Sri Lanka have identified Namal Rajapaksa as the country’s next president.
Speaking at an event in Ratnapura, Fernando said public discussions, particularly at the village level, reflect growing support for Rajapaksa’s potential candidacy.
“As a party, we believe Namal Rajapaksa’s journey is progressing well. Villagers are already talking about him becoming the next president,” he said.
Fernando alleged that the government is attempting to discredit Rajapaksa with false accusations due to fears about his rising popularity.
“When they are scared, they file cases and attempt to imprison him. It’s because they know that Namal Rajapaksa is coming. Intelligence agencies have already given their reports on this,” he said.
The former minister also claimed that leaders of several countries and diplomats he met during recent embassy visits expressed similar expectations about Rajapaksa’s political future.
“Leaders of various countries have said this. We visited a numerous of embassies, where they said Namal Rajapaksa— your leader— is the next president,” Fernando said. (Islandnews)
