The gunman and motorcyclist wanted over the shooting incident targeting a businessman in the Kapugama area under the Gandara Police Division on 03rd August, have been arrested.
According to the Police, the suspects were arrested in the Wellampitiya and Ganemulla–Imbulgoda areas yesterday by the Matara Division Criminal Investigation Unit.
The businessman is reported to have sustained minor injuries in the shooting carried out using a T-56 firearm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the shooter is a 47-year-old resident of Wellampitiya who had deserted the military, and the motorcyclist is a 28-year-old resident of Peliyagoda.
The Police said the shooting was allegedly carried out under the direction of a drug lord currently residing overseas, adding that the suspects have been identified as individuals heavily addicted to narcotics.
Based on information revealed by the suspects, the Police recovered 4.230g of ICE, clothing worn during the crime, and mobile phones from the location in Dehiwala where they had been staying.
The Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Islandnews)
