Sri Lanka’s police, Special Task Force, and tri-forces carried out a series of joint search operations on July 24 as part of ongoing daily efforts to apprehend individuals involved in narcotics and criminal activity.
More than 7,100 personnel participated in the operations, during which 25,671 individuals were inspected. Authorities also checked 10,360 vehicles and 7,833 motorcycles.
A total of 1,504 individuals were arrested in connection with drug-related offenses. Seized narcotics included approximately 809 grams and 160 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as “ice”) and 705 grams and 214 milligrams of heroin.
Authorities also detained 22 individuals identified as being directly linked to criminal activity and arrested 520 suspects with outstanding warrants.
Between July 18 and July 24, police operations resulted in the seizure of over 2.1 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, nearly 1.3 kilograms of heroin, and more than 82 kilograms of cannabis. (Islandnews)
