Sri Lanka Navy seized over 800kg of smuggled spices, medicine, and cosmetic products during a search operation in Kilinochchi on 11 July 2025. Four suspects were arrested, and two cabs used to transport the items were taken into custody.
The operation, conducted by SLNS Buwaneka of the North Central Naval Command, uncovered 300kg of cardamom, 260kg of turmeric powder, 273kg of dried ginger, along with other contraband.
The suspects, aged 39 to 49, are residents of Erakkandi, Kalmunaikudi, Trincomalee, and Puttalam. They and the seized goods were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake. (NewsWire)
