Parliament will meet from August 19 to 22, with the Gambling Regulatory Authority Bill among several key items scheduled for debate during the upcoming parliamentary week, according to Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera.
The agenda was finalized at the Committee on Parliamentary Business held on August 6.
On Tuesday, August 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Second Reading of the Gambling Regulatory Authority Bill will be taken up, alongside debates on regulations under the Public Debt Management Act and an order under the Foreign Exchange Act. A government adjournment motion will follow.
Debates on Wednesday, August 20, will include the Second Readings of the Samurdhi (Amendment) Bill and Rubber Control (Amendment) Bill, along with regulations under the Sports Law and the Judicature Act. Time has also been allocated for Questions at the Adjournment Time.
On Thursday, August 21, Parliament will consider a resolution under the Customs Ordinance and several regulations under the Excise (Special Provisions) Act, Finance Act, and Construction Industry Development Act. A government adjournment motion will conclude the day’s proceedings.
Friday, August 22, will be dedicated to an Adjournment Debate requested by the Opposition during a previous Committee meeting held on July 24. This debate will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Islandnews)
