A Police Sergeant attached to the Keerthibandarapura Police has been arrested for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.
According to the Bribery Commission, the Police officer was arrested based on a complaint filed by a businessman from the Kandaketiya area.
The Police Sergeant was arrested this morning while accepting a bribe at a hotel in Keerthibandarapura.
The Bribery Commission said the Police officer had solicited the bribe to allow the businessman to conduct his sand transporting business without any obstacles.
The Police Sergeant has been remanded until 18 August after being produced before the Walapane Magistrate’s Court. (Islandnews)
