Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will make an official visit to the Maldives next Monday at the invitation of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said
The visit marks Dissanayake’s first official trip to the Maldives since taking office and comes as the two nations celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, established on July 29, 1965.
The leaders are expected to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, trade, and regional cooperation. Talks may also include a proposed agreement aimed at creating a Maldives–Sri Lanka free movement and economic zone, which would allow citizens to live and work in either country without visas or permits.
Further details of the visit are expected to be announced in the coming days. (Islandnews)
