The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for the Naval and fishing communities, warning them of strong winds and rough seas today.
According to the department, showers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo will be fairly rough at times.
The wave height may increase to about 2.5-3.0 m in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Galle (this is not for the land area). (Islandnews)
