Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has raised concerns over a Sri Lankan YouTuber predicting the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, even prior to his arrest today.
In a post on ‘X’, MP Premadasa questioned whether the prediction was a coincidence or was planned.
“A YouTuber predicting the arrest of a former President before it even happens? That can’t be a coincidence, could it be planned? If true, it’s a sad day when something as sacred as law and order is reduced to cheap theatrics,” he said.
His comments come in connection with former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s arrest by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today, over the misuse of state funds for an overseas tour to London during his presidency.
Earlier today, MP Chamara Sampath Dasanayake questioned in Parliament how actor-turned-YouTuber Sudaththa Thilakasiri appeared to know in advance about the possible arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
In a statement on social media, former Minister Ali Sabry also raised concerns, stating, “Ranil Wickremesinghe’s arrest as predicted by a YouTuber is deeply troubling. Such actions reflect a disturbing trend of vindictive and destructive politics that undermine our institutions and future. This cycle must end. Sri Lanka deserves a politics of reason and stability.” (Islandnews)
