The signing of a joint statement to establish diplomatic relations with the State of Belize, has received Cabinet approval.
The move follows an earlier Cabinet decision to initiate ties with several Latin American and Caribbean nations, including Guatemala, Suriname, Honduras, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The proposal, presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, seeks to strengthen political, socio-economic, and cultural cooperation between Sri Lanka and Belize for mutual benefit, the government said. (Islandnews)
