Sri Lanka received USD 697.3 million in worker remittances in July 2025, up from USD 635.7 million in June, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The increase reflects a 9.7% month-on-month growth and continued strength in external income sources. Compared to July 2024, when remittances stood at USD 576.7 million, the latest figure marks a year-on-year rise of nearly 21%.
The strong inflows supported the country’s gross official reserves, which rose to USD 6.14 billion by end-July. Reserve assets include bilateral arrangements such as the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) swap. (Islandnews)
