A horrific accident occurred near the Akmeemana Hinidumgoda Junior School yesterday (24), when a motorcycle, ridden by a student, hit a woman walking with her children, severing a part of her right leg.
According to police, the injured woman’s leg was partially ripped off from above the ankle and remained lodged in the motorcycle as the rider fled the scene.
The student rider had later discarded the severed limb in a nearby wooded area. Following an urgent operation, Akmeemana Police arrested the suspect, who was found hiding at his residence. The discarded body part was also recovered.
The injured woman was rushed to the Galle National Hospital’s emergency treatment unit. The severed part of her leg was handed over to hospital authorities around two hours later. (Islandnews)
