Jaffna Police have arrested nine individuals, including a woman, after they were allegedly found travelling suspiciously while carrying several sharp weapons and Rs. 900,000 in cash.
According to police, the group was travelling in a car and two motorcycles when officers stopped and searched them near Jaffna town.
During the search, police reportedly discovered several sharp weapons and the cash inside the car. The items were taken into police custody, while the vehicle and two motorcycles used by the suspects were also seized.
Following further investigations, all nine suspects were arrested and produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court. The court subsequently ordered that the suspects be remanded.
Jaffna Police are continuing investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the intended purpose of the weapons and cash.
